Walk Hard: Hitting the Right Notes.

Posted by admin on December 24, 2007

Just the fact that this movie seems to hit all the right notes slays me. Take a look: even the freaking cinematography is self-important.

Site of the Week: Buzzword

Posted by admin on December 15, 2007

Although I’m a big fan of open source software, I’ve never really gotten into internet based applications. I don’t now why, exactly. There’s just something about about it that doesn’t appeal to me.  Typing into a web page and saving my work-in-progress on someone else’s server just raises ownership issues.  I already spend eight hours a day doing someone else’s business on their computer. Maybe I want MY work on MY Computer.

But is anything is going to change my mind, It’s Buzzword.  Buzzword is a beautiful Flash-based Web-based Word Processor. It’s cool. It’s easy. And it’s feature packed.

Because it’s flashed based, the developers have added animated menus and a great graphical design. Because it’s web based it’s simple and well laid out. And because Adobe just bought it, it’s only going to get better.

There are a few flaws However. Buzzword has only a few fonts, But Courier is represented for manuscripts. And although Adobe now owns the Site, you cannot export as PDF yet.

But for a beautiful, easy to use word processor that travels with you, Buzzword is worth a look.

Amazing Grace Survives Being Run Over

Posted by admin on December 12, 2007

My Wife Lorie brought Gracie home almost seven years ago to the day.

She saw the tiny puppy on the side of the road in an ice storm and decided to stop. The dog was malnurished and abused, and was barely eight weeks old.

But she was cute. And quick to learn. She’s very even tempered and great with kids. It took a year or two for her to warm to me: we figure she was abused by a man.

But she’s always had a problem with coming when called. She hesitates, looks at you, and tentatively takes a few steps. She’s afraid of doing something wrong. She’s always been a roamer, and we’ve tried to watch her: to make sure she doesn’t slip her lea or leave the yard. We knew she’d be hit one of these days.

On Monday, we were running late for work. I let her out and forgot about her, and took Lorie to work and drove myself in.

Jamie was home alone when she noticed Gracie across the street. She opened the door, called her, and Gracie started across the street.

And was struck by a speeding, black, SUV.

When All was said and done, the dog ended up with abrasions all over her face from striking the pavement and rolling, contusions on her chest and lungs, and a dislocated hip, that, so far, seems to be holding without any surgery. Even the Vet seems impressed.

Gracie

Of course, the Driver did not stop.
