OK. I bought the supernatural angle since the beginning of the year. But NO MORE. God, I’ve had it with Fantasy and Sci-Fi shows that pretend to be serials but aren’t really because they’re just making it up.
I blame Chris Carter. He Legitimized this kind of sloppy story telling. It’s a fraud. It’s contemptuous. And it’s dishonest from a story telling perspective- it’s not a mystery if the clues don’t mean anything.
Look- We still watch Dr. Who- that’s a thirty year old show about a time travelling alien aimed at kids with a budget of about $12 an episode for nearly it’s entire run.
Star Trek had transporters so they didn’t have to pay for shuttle effects every episode. Dr. Who has a telephone booth so they wouldn’t have to pay for a time machine- Just a truck to haul it to whatever quarry was being used that week. It’s had 11 -ELEVEN- actors playing the same bleeding character!!!
And the doctor’s always been a mysterious character with a lot of inconsistencies. So when they try to add to the official canon, the producers and writers have a fine line to tread. They can’t just rewrite whole swaths of lore to fit whatever story they want to tell at the time.
But Lost? No Problem- Anything goes cuz it’s only fantasy, right? Magic explains everything and you don’t need an explanation if it’s magic
It’s getting so bad I’m changing my opinion of the Star Trek Reboot. Sure, Abrams loves the old Trek and did it justice- But he obviously doesn’t care about the audience, using the magic RED MATTER to move that plot along. So all the other things where he managed to get it right?
Must’ve been Hurley and his Luck. Because Obviously, you don’t have to make it work if it’s just Sci-fi.
